SUMMARY:74th Annual NM NAACP State Conference
DESCRIPTION:The NM NAACP State Conference is coming to Las Cruces. The conference theme is “the fierce urgency of now”. \n\n\n\nThe inaugural event will be a Gospel Explosion at the Heart for the World Church on Friday evening\, October 10th at 7 PM. Gospel choirs and performing artists from all across the state will participate in this powerful event. (Free and open to the public.) \n\n\n\nSaturday\, October 11th at 10 AM we will hold a Prayer Brunch at the Las Cruces Convention Center. Our keynote speaker will be Pastor Brian Harvey from Bethel Second Baptist Church in Las Cruces. Tickets are $50 per person. \n\n\n\nSaturday\, October 11th at 6 PM we will hold our Conference Banquet at the Las Cruces Convention Center. Our keynote speaker will be Raquel Bone who is an NMSU alum\, College of Business Hall-of-Fame recipient\, and NAACP Foundation Board Member. Music by the Billy Townes Jazz Ensemble of El Paso\, TX. Tickets for the banquet are $100 per person.

DESCRIPTION:Get to know the darker side of the desert…Join Asombro on October 11th to celebrate the amazing nocturnal animals living unseen around us. Meet a Great-Horned Owl\, see a scorpion glow in the dark\, and go on a bat walk as the sun sets with researchers from NMSU. Make a bat mask\, collect free trading cards\, and visit other booths around the Chihuahuan Desert Nature Park with family-friendly crafts and activities centered around desert wildlife. Parking is limited; carpooling is encouraged. Don’t forget your flashlights. Wear your battiest gear.

This is a great opportunity to meet other volunteers and learn more about Asombro. We work on a variety of tasks such as folding newsletters\, stapling\, sharpening\, and other various tasks that help us prepare for education programs.
